how to get rid of ants
Ants that have settled in a residential building or garden area often cause a lot of inconvenience. Therefore, for many, the issue of their extermination is acute.
Today, there are many modern means that allow you to get rid of these annoying insects, but many prefer traditional methods.
There are three types of fighting ants using folk remedies:
- Expelling insects using repellers.
- Substances that allow you to limit insects’ access to certain places.
- A method that destroys ants on any surface.
- Extermination of the entire insect colony.
As you know, ants, like many other insects, cannot tolerate strong and unpleasant odors. Wormwood, garlic, cinnamon, mint, turmeric are plants that repel ants in the house or garden. The leaves along with the stems of the plants need to be spread out in all the places where these insects have infested. The garlic needs to be cut into slices and also placed in places where ants accumulate. Sunflower oil is an excellent repellent. Oil streaks create a barrier for insects. These products are not effective in controlling ants, but they can reduce the damage they cause. The same effect is achieved by using soapy water to moisten the places where insects move.
In order to block access for pests, for example, to places where food and water are located, the following measures should be taken:
- It is recommended to store food in airtight packaging.
- A well-dried sink can be greased around the edge with sunflower oil.
- Maintaining complete cleanliness will significantly reduce the number of insects.
In the garden, in places where ants accumulate, for example, on tree trunks, the use of plasticine or garden varnish is very effective. This will be a barrier to their penetration into the tree bark. Fishing belts made of polyethylene film, which you can make yourself, are very effective. They wrap tree trunks.
To destroy the ant family on the surface, various traps are used. To do this, pour any jam or sugar syrup into a jar. Ants will drown in this sweetness. The same traps can be made in the garden by digging them next to the anthill.
To completely destroy an insect colony, boric acid is used. I add a substance to the bait in such an amount that the working ants carry this poison, which destroys their skeleton, to the anthill along with their food. Two more products are fatal to these insects: starch and coffee grounds. Ants eat them with pleasure and carry them to the nest, but when they swell in their stomachs, these substances lead to death.
