These are representatives of the "aboriginal" breed, which was formed to a greater extent independently in the vastness of Central Asia. Quite often among dog breeders such a nickname of "Central Asians" as "Alabai" is observed, but it is not correct in relation to them. According to historical facts, "alabai" is a title given to dogs for their courage and courage. By the way, on the territory of Turkmenistan, since the mid-nineties, they have been called "Turkmen wolfhounds" and are ranked among the national heritage of the country.
A brief excursion into the history of the breed
The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is an ancient species of guard and herding dogs. There is an opinion among cynologists that the breed originates from dogs that lived about four thousand years ago in the southwest of Turkmenistan. Today, the habitat of individuals is so vast that it is easier to say where they are not. It is due to the fact that "Central Asians" are excellent service and working dogs, they are extremely popular among fans of large breeds. An interesting fact is that the Central Asian Shepherd Dog belongs to the "molosser" section, which in turn characterizes them as quite large animals.
Exterior
The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is a proud and independent dog with a rough and strong type of constitution. Males at the withers start from seventy centimeters, and females from sixty. Weight ranges from forty to eighty kilograms depending on gender and type. The limbs are powerful and well-built, endowed with massive bones, while the paws are compact.
The breed has a powerful and wide head with a somewhat flat forehead and a slight transition from it to the muzzle of the individual. The "Central Asians" have a voluminous and full face, with a pronounced black or brown nose lobe on it. The dark eyes of the animal, located at an impressive distance from each other, have a rounded shape.
Description of ears and body
As a rule, the ears and tail of the animal are cropped, this phenomenon has been used since time immemorial, when the "Central Asians" guarded the pastures and could engage in a fight with a wild wolf. From birth, the Central Asian Shepherd Dog has small, triangular and low-set ears.
The neck itself is short but powerful with a thick hide that folds and protects it from damage in battle. Dogs have a wide and deep chest with rounded ribs, but the transition from the chest to the abdomen of the dog is very poorly distinguished. The croup of the "Central Asian" is almost horizontal with excellent muscle mass. The back is quite wide, strong and straight when examined.
Wool and color
Experts distinguish two types of "hair" in the breed. The first is long hair, reaching eight centimeters, and the second type is short-haired. The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is characterized by a thick undercoat, which saves from bad weather, as well as the presence of hair, mane and breeches.
The most common color is:

Character
The peculiarity of these dogs is that they are resistant to both frost and heat. Naturally, the breed is not adapted to life in an apartment and requires space of movement. Contrary to prejudice, these are balanced, brave and courageous dogs that are sometimes distrustful of strangers, so you should not let guests near your pet.
