Thanks to the plastic properties of mastic, from it, like plasticine, you can create various bizarre shapes that will perfectly serve as a decoration for any cake.
How and from what to make mastic
Mastic can be bought in a confectionery store, but it is relatively expensive. If you have a desire, then it can be prepared at home. To create it, you need to prepare some simple utensils, which are always at hand for any housewife. So, you will need:
- Wooden rolling pin.
- Cutting board.
- Deep bowls.
- Rounded knife.
- Roll of cling film.
For direct cooking, you will need the following ingredients:
- Chewing marshmallows (marshmallows) - 200-250 grams.
- Sugar or powdered sugar - 150-200 grams.
- Butter – 1 tablespoon.
- Starch - 25 grams.
- Gelatin – 2 grams.
- Lemon – 1 pc.
- Purified water - 2 tablespoons.
- A set of food colorings - 1 pack.
You can take ready-made jelly lozenges.
Method for making mastic
When everything is prepared, proceed to the direct preparation of mastic at home:
- Take a deep plate or bowl and place the chewy marshmallows in it, and place the bowl in a water bath. After the marshmallow begins to melt, add a tablespoon of butter to it. At the same time, you must constantly stir everything. A homogeneous mass should be obtained in a water bath, to which the swollen gelatin should be added and continue to stir the resulting mass until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Add two tablespoons of purified water to the hot homogeneous mass. By the way, to give the mastic a pleasant taste with sourness, you can replace the water with freshly squeezed lemon juice: to do this, cut the lemon into two parts and squeeze the juice out of it. Add a few drops of food coloring of the desired color here. Continue stirring everything until the desired color is obtained.
- Place 200 grams of powdered sugar and 2 grams of starch in a deep bowl, pour in the hot liquid mass there. Start stirring everything with a spoon until the mastic thickens. Then knead the thickened mastic like a regular dough with your hands on a board sprinkled with powdered sugar.
- The mastic should turn out to be elastic, like plasticine. After that, it must be tightly wrapped in cling film and put in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Take your colorful pieces of fondant out of the fridge and live out your fantasies of creating a sweet masterpiece.
To get a multi-colored mastic, it is necessary to repeat the procedure, adding food coloring of the required colors.
